More 5ks

In the last couple of weeks we did our 2nd and 3rd 5k races, improving on our first one of the year.

First, on September 18th we did Sue’s Run for Kids in Riverview Park. This was a smaller event on a challenging course. Riverview Park is on top of a hill, with the Allegheny Observatory on top. The route ran up a good hill to the Observatory at the start, then downhill for the next hill before a one-mile climb to the finish. It was a tough course with the long hills, but we both had solid times, improving on our earlier paces (Tim measured this 5k at 3.18 miles). It is a pretty park and we enjoyed the route…and the post race water, food and ice cream samples were great.

This past weekend we did the Run Shadyside 5k. It was a pretty flat route with only small inclines as we ran through the neighborhood. BUT, it was COOOOOLD that morning, cloudy and below 45. We both ran with long sleeves, as many of the 800+ other runners also did. Maybe the cold helped us run faster…that and the flatter course, as we both rocked our previous times. Especially Janie, who was 4th out of 55 in her group!  They had free pancakes and beer after the race but we didn’t stick around due to the cold.

Now it is less than 2 weeks until our last 5k of the year…hope the weather is good!
