5k

On Saturday (8/27) Janie and Tim ran their first 5k race of the year: the Regent Square Run around the Square. It is a nice, challenging course that Tim also ran in 2009. The first ~mile is through Regent Square, on cobblestone streets. Then, it goes into Frick Park. The next 1+ miles are an uphill climb in and along the park until a steady downward slope for the last 0.8 miles. This is one of the most popular 5k races in Pittsburgh, with around 1500 runners. It was quite packed at the start. Tim had a good first and last mile, but ran out of gas in the middle, while Janie ran a great overall time – much better than her usual pace.
And then we signed up for 3 more 5k races in the next 1.5 months. We’re crazy. Sue’s run 4 kids in Riverview Park on September 18th, Run Shadyside in the Shadyside neighborhood near us on October 1st and Race for Pace in the Churchill borough on October 15th. I guess we have to keep in (moderate) shape…(and Tim really wants to beat his 5k time from yesterday).
