Cubs-Pirates and 38 Special Skyblast

During our honeymoon, Tim got his camera wet, which unfortunately led to it dying. Thanks to credit card points, Tim was able to order a nice new Sony digital camera, which arrived a week ago. The camera has lots of cool features that Tim was excited to try out: 16x zoom, panoramic shots, and HD video, among many others.

As part of our Pirates ticket package, we had seats for the July 9 Cubs game.

Ready for some baseballOur normal seats down the left field line gave us a good vantage on the park (camera panorama!).

Panorama of fieldA great camera zoom gave a nice view of the action – here is Cubs’ All Star Starlin Castro.

Cubs' All Star Starlin CastroTim’s new camera also allows zooming-in while recording video! Here Castro drives in a run in the 4th inning.

Night-time panorama!

Night time panorama of fieldThe Cubs scored runs in each of the first few innings and held on for a 6-3 win! As the Cubs players gathered on the field to celebrate, W-flags were unfurled around the park.

Cubs Win!Next it was time to set up for another Pirates Skyblast, featuring 38 Special, a rock band originally formed in the 70s.

38 Special on the marqueeThey played a solid concert, which was alternated with another excellent fireworks show (like our first Skyblast of the summer), with everything lasting an hour.

Rocking on stageTim’s camera takes in stereo sound, and does a nice job for video.

Like last time, fireworks were shot off of the field, the Clemente Bridge, the Allegheny River and even two skycrapers across the river in downtown!

Fireworks on the skyscrapers! The band was lit upAnd the grand finale was excellent!

It all ended just before 11:30 pm, and we were home close to midnight. What an evening!
