Honeymoon Day 4 (5/10/11): Pool day!

After a long day outside the resort the prior day, it was an easy decision to spend this day relaxing by the pool. As before, we started it with an excellent buffet breakfast, though we both were into our routines: cereal for Tim and pancakes for Janie. There was a selection of fruit smoothies that Tim was also starting to hit up, and enjoying. On the way to the pool, we noticed this medium-sized lizard by the sidewalk – one of many we would see around the resort.

Lizard near a sidewalk in the RiuIt was a nice and relaxing day. We repeated cycles of reading and people-watching in the shade, while occasionally sipping on a drink from the bar, with time swimming in the pool (putting on new sunscreen layers before each trip outside the shade). The only nuisance was the shifting of the sun across the sky, which forced us to bump our lounge chairs over every once in a while. We enjoyed these mid-week days as the resort was clearly well below capacity.

The Riu had several specialty restaurants, for which they asked that guests obtain reservations earlier in the day. There was a Chinese restaurant, an Italian restaurant, and the outdoor eating area near the pool was a steakhouse at night. On this day we got reservations at the Chinese restaurant, for 6:15 (it was either that or 8:30). It is a well-decorated, air-conditioned room. The staff was a little more personally attentive. The food was also a buffet, but mainly Chinese themed. All-in-all, it was ok. There were some sushi varieties that Tim really liked, and several other things that we both liked. Seated at a table close to us was a couple from Nebraska that we shared a few words with.

After dinner, before heading up to our room, we saw another pretty sunset.
